Learning Outcome 1
In my revisions I mainly tried to focus on whether I was able to get my point across. I would reread my thesis to remind myself of my overall goal of the essay and then go through each paragraph ensuring that the quotes and points I present align with my thesis. If the points or quotes in the paragraph do not align with my thesis I either try to tweak them a little, find new quotes or delete the whole paragraph which is something I ended up having to do. In the paragraph I put both ENG 110 students in conversation, however, when going back through I realized that the paragraph did not relate to my overall theme. I ended up having to cut the paragraph entirely. Another thing that added to my decision in cutting the paragraph was that it would have put me significantly over my word count, overall, the paragraph was not benefitting my work so I had to remove it. In my revision as well, I carefully went through my peer reviews that I received, reading through their comments and any notes I made during class. I did not always use what my peers said, as I came to my own conclusions about what needed to change and what didn’t. However, my peers did direct me in seeing that the paragraph I mentioned previously didn’t fit well with my thesis. They also informed me that I should cut my thesis shorter which I did end up following through with. All in all going through paragraph by paragraph and looking my peer review was a large help in revising my essay and being able to make it into a final draft.
In my earlier works I feel as though I didn’t do as thorough of a revision as I did in project 3. I made sure to reread my essay multiple times which allowed me to catch multiple errors for local revision as well as larger mistakes in global revision. I would even read my essay out loud allowing me to catch any mistakes I missed earlier.
